Capranica, indeed, is one of the most picturesque villages in the Tuscia Viterbese. It is situated between the Sabatini Hills and Monti Cimini on a tufa-rock hill dominating the Cassia Way. With its strategic position, dominating the only road connecting southern and Central Etruria. This made of Capranica a very important gateway of ancient history up to the Medieval times.
Strolling through the historical center (borgo) you may glimpse at the many remains of the past : remains of the Abbey now called “Le Torri di Orlando”, the churches of S.Maria and S. Francesco, the Cathedral of S.Giovanni and the many palaces and buildings of various periods. Capranica welcomes tourists all year round for its many festivals (sagre) and events, and is famous for its large production of hazelnuts.
