Cellere is famous for its beautiful landscapes full of olive trees is situated on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by woods in the valley of the Timone River. The Etruscans used this area to store their grain by digging wells out of the soft local tufa rock.
The main street is flanked by prettily painted houses and palaces. After the main square, crossing a bridge and then passing through the ancient gate you arrive to the main square, the charming Rocca Farnese (15th/17th century).
Domenico Tiburzi, one of the most legendary Maremma brigands, was born here. Regularly every year, in August his memory lives again in the country festival that takes place in Timone park.
Remarkable is the country church of S.Egidio built in the 16th century designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Young. The church is no longer open for celebrations, but for social and cultural activities.
